SM Entertainment Regarding NCT Member Contracts: No One Ends This Year

JAKARTA - South Korean agency SM Entertainment gave a statement regarding the contract period of their group, NCT. This year, some NCT members celebrate their seventh year debut which is known to be an exclusive contract term with the agency.

NCT's contract began to be discussed after the news of BLACKPINK members discussing their contract with YG Entertainment. BLACKPINK's contract reportedly ended in August and one of the members, Lisa, reportedly did not renew the contract.

NCT and BLACKPINK debuted in 2016 making discussions about this contract crowded. As a result, SM Entertainment released a statement regarding NCT's contract and they emphasized that NCT's contract had not ended at least until the end of 2024.

"When NCT signed a contract, we considered several elements such as mandatory military service and foreign activities, so their contract period was longer than usual (seven years)," said a SM Entertainment representative, launching the HeraldBusiness.

20 NCT members also have different contracts due to differences in their debut period, solo activities, and other activities.

"Although there is a difference between individual members, no member contracts will end this year," he continued.

"All member contracts will end starting at the end of next year or so," they said.

Previously, three members of the EXO group who were also promoted by SM Entertainment filed for termination of their contract with SM Entertainment. In their statement, they hoped that the contracts regulated by SM would not have an impact on their junior groups for the sake of fairness and transparency of income.

Three members: Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen then canceled the contract cancellation and decided to continue the contract with SM Entertainment.

Meanwhile last week, three Super Junior members: Donghae, Eunhyuk and Kyuhyun terminated their contracts with SM Entertainment after 17 years.
