JAKARTA - The Indonesian Olefin, Aromatic and Plastic Industry Association (Inaplas) appreciates the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita who has fought for the extension of the Limited Natural Gas Price (HGBT) policy this year.
"The extension of the HGBT policy is very important for the national petrochemical and plastic industry. So we thank the Minister of Industry, Mr. Agus Gumiwang and his staff who have fought for the extension of the HGBT," said Deputy Chairperson of Inaplas Edi Rivai, quoted on Tuesday, January 28.
It is known that the HGBT program worth US$6 per MMBTU has ended in December 2024 for 7 industrial sectors, namely ceramics, fertilizers, petrochemicals, olechemicals, steel, glass, and rubber gloves.
Edi explained that the extension of the HGBT had various positive impacts on the industry, including better competitiveness because competitive gas prices supported industrial operational efficiency, so they were able to compete with imported products.
Then provide support for investment, because gas price stability creates confidence for investors to continue investing in Indonesia, both for capacity expansion and technology development.
"Then industrial growth. With more controlled production costs, this policy will encourage the growth of the manufacturing industry sector which is one of the main pillars of the national economy," he said.
Furthermore, said Edi, it can maintain the sustainability of employment opportunities.
"A more competitive and growing industry will help create and maintain jobs for the people of Indonesia. We hope that this policy will continue to support the industrial ecosystem in a sustainable manner, so that the contribution of the industrial sector to the economy can increase," he continued.
Edi also hopes that gas suppliers such as PGN and others can comply with commitments related to supply, quota, and prices set by the government.
"Don't limit the supply anymore, in accordance with the contracts given. The certainty of gas supply with appropriate quality and price will further strengthen the positive impact of this HGBT policy," said Edi.
