Clarification Of Arteria's Statement, Stop OTT Police, Prosecutors And Judges, PDIP: No Privilege In Law

JAKARTA - Member of the PDIP faction of the Indonesia House of Representatives, Junimart Girsang, clarified the statement of his colleague, Arteria Dahlan, who stated that he did not agree with the Hand Arrest Operation (OTT) against law enforcement officers (APH). Like Police, Prosecutors, and Judges.

Junimart emphasized that the statement was not part of the attitude of his party or the PDIP faction in the Indonesia House of Representatives but as a personal statement from an Arteria Dahlan. So, Junimart said, don't associate it with PDIP's attitude.

"What my friend Arteria Dahlan said has nothing to do with the attitude of the PDI-P faction in the House of Representatives. I need to emphasize that the PDI-Struggle strongly supports law enforcement in this country, all are equal in the eyes of the law", Junimart told reporters at Jakarta, Wednesday, October 13.

On the other hand, Junimart, who is also a former member of Commission III of the Indonesia House of Representatives, emphasized that even though there are many police officers, prosecutors, and judges who must be punished for OTT, the Republic of Indonesia will never collapse. As stated by Arteria Dahlan yesterday.

"No, this republic can't collapse just because a handful of law enforcers must be punished by their own mistakes, in fact, law enforcement must start from the law enforcement agencies themselves", said the Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

Junimart ensures that there is no basis or reason to grant privileges that prohibit law enforcement officers from being punished or arrested in OTT. Moreover, he said, considering that Indonesia is a state of law and adheres to the principle of equality before the law or all are equal before the law.

"Personally, I say that I do not agree that law enforcement officers have the privilege of enforcing the law. There is no basis. Because we are all equal before the law, law enforcers must also be allowed to violate the law. Yes, they must be processed legally", he concluded.

Previously, Member of Commission III of the Indonesia House of Representatives, Arteria Dahlan, admitted that he did not agree with the Hand Catch Operation (OTT) against law enforcement officers such as prosecutors, judges, and police. According to him, conducting OTT against judges, prosecutors and police cannot guarantee that the problem will be resolved.

“Imagine if you arrest the police, if you arrest the prosecutor, if you arrest the judge, the Republic will collapse. There are still many ways to improve them,” said Arteria, Tuesday, October 12.

The PDIP politician added that his party opened up space for all parties to see it from a different perspective. Now, said Arteria, his party uses the APIP (Internal Government Supervisory Apparatus) if there is an error in the bureaucracy.

He emphasized that his party was not defending people who were corrupt or abused their authority, but in a modern law country, how to maintain the dignity of law enforcement institutions must be put forward.

“Enforce the law in many ways. Not by taking legal actions that are actually counterproductive to that", said Arteria.
