Immigration Soetta Airport Secures 2 Malaysian Citizens Regarding Passport Smuggling

TANGERANG - The TPI Soekarno-Hatta Special Class Immigration Office secured 2 Malaysian citizens (WN) with the initials SK (47) and JM (34). They were arrested for smuggling 12 Malaysian passports through Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang City.

Head of the Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Office, Subki Miludi, said the perpetrators entered Indonesian territory using the Malindo Air OD 318 plane on the Kualu Lumpur-Jakarta route, May 30, 2024, then.

He explained that at the time of the incident the perpetrator managed to escape the Immigration examination. However, the passport evidence was caught red-handed by the Customs and Excise Office of Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang City.

"After successfully undergoing immigration checks, both of them were caught red-handed while inspecting luggage by Customs officers at Terminal 2 Arrivals," Subki told reporters at the Soekarno Hatta Airport Immigration Office, Tangerang City, Wednesday, July 24.

Furthermore, the two perpetrators were handed over to the Immigration Office of Soekaeno Hatta Airport, Tangerang City for further investigation.

"The results of the examination show that SK and JM were proven to have brought 12 Malaysian passports on behalf of other people illegally," he said.

He added that the perpetrators brought dozens of passports ordered by someone with Indian nationals with the lure of 1000 thousand ringgit or Rp. 3 million.

"So these two people, the people who were told to come from Malaysia. So someone with the initials R was told to bring them to Indonesia. So 1 luggage (contains 12). Actually, the SK is related. JM added to participate," he said.

Furthermore, these dozens of passports are planned to be sent to suspect R at a hotel in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

"The passport delivery flow has been planned very neatly, even using courier intermediaries. When our investigators gave chase at the hotel, perpetrator R had fled," he said.

Currently, the two perpetrators have been charged with Article 130 of Law No. 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration with a maximum imprisonment of 2 years and a maximum fine of Rp. 200 million.
