LPG Warehouse In Bali That Burns Is Not Worth Saving Gas

JAKARTA - The LPG warehouse that caught fire on Cargo Street, Taman 1, Ubung Kaja Village, North Denpasar, on Sunday, June 9, was said to be unfit for gas storage. "Regarding the issue of warehouses and permits, it is definitely not there. All warehouse SOPS and all kinds of warehouses have provisions. It is not a proper place to be used as a gas storage area," said Head of the Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit Kompol Laorens Rajamangapul Heselo, Antara, Saturday, June 15.

According to Laorens, the conclusion of the failure of the LPG warehouse that caused 12 people to die was based on information compiled by investigators from several witnesses from the service regarding business licensing and PT. Pertamina Patra Niaga, as well as experts who have competence to comment on the feasibility of the place. According to these parties, the LPG warehouse that has been burned does not comply with the standards for gas storage in general from licensing, risk mitigation, distribution, transportation, and others as regulated in regulations on oil and gas.

According to the statements of several witnesses who have been examined by investigators, several employees live in the warehouse. In addition, when the fire broke out, the warehouse gate was still locked, so the victims climbed the wall fence to avoid the flames.

"Especially for mitigation, it has been arranged. Information from experts for warehouses that are now used is not actually feasible. Moreover, in the warehouse there are employees concerned who live there," said Laorens.

Therefore, Denpasar Police investigators named the warehouse owner named Sukojin (50) as a suspect on suspicion of violating Article 53 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas Earth as amended by Article 40 letter 8 of Law No. 6 of 2023 concerning Stipulation of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation into Law. When asked about the alleged mixing of gas in the warehouse, Laorens has not yet concluded considering that the results of forensic laboratory tests from Bidlabfor Polda Bali have not been completed.

However, if the alleged mixing of LPG gas can be proven by strong evidence, it is possible that there will be additional new articles suspected of the suspect Sukojin in addition to the three articles currently applied by investigators.
