Denied Receiving Money, Two Ministry Of Social Officials Admitted Receiving Brompton Bicycles

JAKARTA - The Director-General for Social Protection and Security, Pepen Nazaruddin, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Hartono, claimed to have refused the money given from Adi Wahyono. They only admit to receiving Brompton bicycles.

Adi Wahyono is the Head of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Social Affairs as well as the Proxy for Budget User (KPA) for the 2020 Ministry of Social Affairs Headquarters Work Unit and Commitment Making Officer (PPK) for the procurement of COVID-19 social assistance.

Their confessions were conveyed when they were witnesses in the trial of the alleged bribery of social assistance (Bansos) with the defendants Harry Van Sidabukke and Ardian Iskandar Maddanatja.

Initially, the public prosecutor (JPU) questioned Hartono about the origin of the Brompton bicycle that was confiscated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). So, it was answered if the bicycle was given by Adi Wahyono.

"We received Brompton from the driver who drove Adi Wahyono", Hartono said in a trial at the Corruption Court, Jakarta, Monday, March 8.

Then, the prosecutor also questioned the price and purpose of giving the Brompton bike. However, Hartono said he was not aware of this matter.

The prosecutor then touched on the question of whether Adi Wahyono was giving money to him. Answering that question, Hartono guaranteed it but it was confirmed that he had never received the money.

"I have been offered but I don't want it", he said.

The prosecutor also asked Pepen Nazaruddin a similar question. A similar answer was also expressed by Pepen, who agreed to give Adi Wahyono a bicycle and money.

"Yes (giving a bicycle). I refused (about giving money)", he said.

For information, Harry van Sidabukke is a private party charged with bribing Juliari and several officials at the Ministry of Social Affairs with a total value of IDR 1.28 billion.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT. Tigapilar Agro Utama Ardian Iskandar Maddanatja was charged with giving IDR 1.95 billion to Juliari and several officials at the Ministry of Social Affairs.

The bribery was carried out so that the two defendants were appointed as Covid-19 social assistance providers at the Ministry of Social Affairs in 2020.
