JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the majority of provinces on the islands of Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi to Papua to be aware of the potential impact of heavy rain on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

According to data from the BMKG Public Meteorology Center received in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Wednesday, provinces that must be aware of the impact of heavy rains include West Java, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, and Gorontalo.

Then, most areas in the provinces of North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua, Southwest Papua, Central Papua, South Papua, and Papua Mountains.

In addition to heavy rains, BMKG also reminded the public from the majority of the provinces to be aware of the heavy rain accompanied by lightning and lightning on Wednesday afternoon, afternoon and early morning.

Previously, BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto explained that the potential impact of disasters due to rain in a number of parts of Indonesia that were still high could have occurred, although it had actually started entering the dry season.

The potential for increased rain is triggered by several atmospheric dynamics that are still active in Indonesian territory, namely the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) phenomenon, the Rossby Kelvin equatorial wave. Until the cyclonic circulation pattern and La Nina also further strengthen the potential for the formation of the rainy cloud.

The combination of the influence of these phenomena is predicted by the BMKG meteorological team to create the potential for moderate-heavy rain, accompanied by lightning / strong winds.

BMKG assesses that such conditions can also have an impact on extreme hydro-meteorological weather which includes floods, flash floods, tornadoes, landslides and so on, although at the same time Indonesia will face the peak of the dry season in mid-July-September 2024.
