Challenging Death, Tanjung Priok Residents Hold A Celebration Tent In The Middle Of The Train Track

JAKARTA - A video recording of a tent and a celebration stage in the railway line (KA) area of Tanjung Priok Station, North Jakarta has gone viral on social media. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta also responded.

Jakarta's Daop 1 Public Relations Manager, Ixfan Hendriwintoko admitted that previously there were residents who asked permission to make a celebration to the UPT in the area. However, they were not given permission because it could endanger the train and residents' journey.

"This area is included in the Benefit Room of the Railway Line (Rumaja) and the Train Path (Rumija) which is used only for the operation of trains, therefore the UPT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta area of Tanjung Priok does not give permission, both written and verbal," said Ixfan when confirmed, Monday, January 29.

KAI deeply regrets the attitude of residents who are still forcing these activities even though they were not given permission by the UPT.

"Although the regional UPT did not give permission, residents still insisted on carrying out these celebration activities. We deeply regret this incident because it has the potential to endanger train trips and residents themselves," he said.

Ixfan said train travel was protected by law No. 23 of 2007 concerning railways so that those who violate will be subject to sanctions.

Based on Law (UU) number 23 of 2007 concerning Railways article 181 paragraph (1) states that everyone is prohibited from being in the good space of the railway line; dragging, moving, placing, or moving goods on the rails or crossing railroad lines; or using railroad lines for other purposes, other than for rail transportation. Violations of Article 181 paragraph (1) are in the form of imprisonment for a maximum of 3 (three) months or a maximum fine of Rp. 15,000,000 (fifteen million rupiah).

"Utilization of the railway path space is also not intended for the public and there should be no activity. Because this is a closed area for the public, so the use of the train lane space is only intended for the operation of trains," he said.

The regulation is contained in Law No. 23 of 2007 concerning railways article 38. This means that apart from officers who have no interest being prohibited from entering, activities involving many people are made, it is very dangerous for both train and residents themselves.

Then article 42 concerning the Railway Law has been confirmed that the Path-Owned Space (RUMIJA) is a plot of land on the left and the right of the Train Line Benefit Room (RUMAJA) which is used to secure rail road construction.

The space belonging to the railway line outside the merit room for the railway line can be used for other purposes with the permission of the track owner provided that it does not endanger the construction of rail roads and rail operations facilities.

"KAI urges residents not to do things again in the future that could endanger the journey of the train and itself," he said.
