Level 3 PPKM Has Been Canceled Simultaneously, Moeldoko: Step On Gas And Brakes Must Be Dynamic With The Developments On COVID-19

JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff, Moeldoko gave an explanation about the cancellation of the implementation of Level 3 Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in all regions during the Christmas and New Year 2022 celebrations. the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The policy of stepping on the gas and pulling the brakes should ideally be adapted to the latest developments in COVID-19 data. The government on Monday (6/12) decided not to apply level 3 PPKM in the Christmas 2021 and New Year 2022 periods equally to all regions, but to implement a number of restrictions.

The decision not to apply level 3 PPKM evenly is also based on the achievement of the first dose of vaccination in Java-Bali which has reached 76 percent, and the second dose which is close to 56 percent. Meanwhile, vaccination for the elderly group reached 64 percent for the first dose and 42 percent for the complete dose in the Java-Bali region.

Although level 3 PPKM was canceled evenly, said Moeldoko, the government still limited community activities to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

"For public crowd events, a maximum of 50 people is allowed, sporting events cannot be without spectators, and the operation of shopping centers, restaurants, cinemas is also limited to only 75 percent (of the total capacity)," said Moeldoko.

In addition, said Moeldoko, long-distance travelers are required to show a negative COVID-19 test result, either through PCR or antigen. "So the president (on the one hand) provides leniency, but on the other hand emphasizes health protocols," he said.

Deputy Chairperson of Covid-19 Handling Team and National Economic Recovery (KPC and PEN), Luhut Pandjaitan, previously said that detailed changes to the PPKM provisions for Christmas 2021 and New Year's 2022 will be stated in the revised Instructions of the Minister of Home Affairs and other circulars.

Apart from that, he added, Jokowi gave directions to accelerate the implementation of children's vaccinations.

"This measure was taken to provide protection for children, including considering the spread of the Omicron variant in South Africa which mostly affects children," said Pandjaitan.
