JAKARTA - Mitsubishi intends to present two Renault Group-based models for the European market. Starting in 2025, the manufacturer will present a compact electric-powered SUV from the Renault unit.
Reporting from Automotive News, Jum'at, December 8, according to the executive of the Mitsubishi-Nissan-Renault alliance, one of the models prepared by the manufacturer with the 'three diamonds' logo was an SUV with a derived design language from Renault.
Alex Thomas, as Head of Marketing Mitsubishi Europe, said that the electric vehicle (EV) would become the main pillar of the line of manufacturer products in the blue continent market. What's more, the development of environmentally friendly vehicles in the region is high.
"Our strategy is to focus on the core segment in Europe," said Alex.
The Japanese manufacturer has released an EV teaser image of its design resembling Renault SCenic E-Tech. Although they are still keeping their mouths shut about the details, it is likely that the electric car will be based on the Alliance CMF-EV platform that will be renamed AmpR Medium.
For the next model, the automotive manufacturer does not want to reveal the base that will be used for the next car. But among several options, it is likely that they will use the Renault Austral model.
The partnership between the three manufacturers is certainly an advantage for each party. Both Nissan and Mitsubishi will assemble a Renault car-based model to reduce development costs by 50 percent.

"It's a big advantage for both companies to get competitive products in the European region," said Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group.
This is not the first time Mitsubishi has used a Renault model base for sale in Europe. Last June, the Tokyo, Japan-based brand launched the Renault Clio facelift-based All-New mini.
The model is one of the many hybrid ranks of manufacturers presented in the European market. Carrying Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) technology, this hatchback carries a 1.6 liter gasoline engine with a dual electric motor that produces 141 dk of power and an integrated 205 Nm torque with a 1.2 kWh battery pack.
Of course this is a huge gamble for Mitsubishi in Europe, considering they have sought to reduce development costs and have withdrawn from several markets including the UK and Belgium in 2020.
