PAPUA - The Wondama Bay Joint SAR Team, West Papua, managed to find a resident who fell from the Belt Nusantara 81 ship while docking at the port of Kuri Pasai Wasior, Saturday, December 21 evening.

Coordinator of the Wondama Bay SAR Alert Unit, Pradikat Edo Suherlin, said the victim, Samuel Yomaki (50), was found dead today.

"Initially we received a report from a member of the Wasior Port Health Office (KKP) named Arif that there were passengers of KM Sabuk Nusantara 81 who crashed from the ship on Saturday (21/12) at 21:12 WIT," he said in Wasior, Antara, Sunday, December 22.

After receiving the report, the Basarnas team went straight to the dock to coordinate with related parties. From the ship's CCTV footage, it appears that the victim was about to get off the ship via the stairs, but unfortunately the victim fell into the sea.

After coordinating, his party then assisted the joint SAR team consisting of KKP, KPLP, Polairud, TNI AD and the local community to search for victims. That night, the joint SAR team immediately carried out search and rescue operations but to no avail, the victim had not been found.

"That night the weather conditions were also not good because of the rain, so the sea water was cloudy and the eyes were limited because it was at night," he said.

Then, the joint SAR team continued their search on Sunday by diving around the ship's location.

After diving for a while, the victim was finally found dead. Then the victim was immediately evacuated at Teluk Wondama Hospital.

"After the victim was found, we declared that the SAR was closed. Thank you for the joint SAR team, who have collaborated on this humanitarian mission and also don't forget that all of us are sorry for the families of the victims, this incident occurred," he said.

He appealed to all people who use sea transportation in the context of Christmas and New Year's homecoming, to always pay attention to the safety of themselves and their families so that unwanted accidents do not occur.
