Thai PM Visits Indonesia after 15 Years, Prabowo Brings Roadmap 2026-2030

JAKARTA - Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul made an official visit to Indonesia after 15 years without a similar visit from a Thai leader.

President Prabowo Subianto said the visit was important because Indonesia and Thailand were two founding countries of ASEAN and had large economies in Southeast Asia.

The statement was made by Prabowo in a joint press statement with Anutin at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, August 3.

"This official visit is also the first visit of the Prime Minister of Thailand to Indonesia after 15 years," said Prabowo.

"So, after 15 years, this is the first official visit," he said.

The meeting was also the Second Leaders' Consultation between Indonesia and Thailand since the two countries upgraded their bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership last year.

Prabowo said the relationship between Indonesia and Thailand has a big influence on the situation in the region.

"Indonesia and Thailand are founding countries of ASEAN. In addition, our two countries have large economies so that the relationship between us greatly affects the situation in Southeast Asia," said Prabowo.

During the meeting, the two countries adopted the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026-2030. This roadmap serves as a guide for future bilateral cooperation.

Prabowo said the meeting with Anutin discussed bilateral, regional, and global issues.

In addition to the roadmap, Indonesia and Thailand also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of education. The agreement is aimed at strengthening cooperation in developing human resources for both countries.

Private cooperation is also included in the list of achievements of the meeting. Prabowo said there was a memorandum of understanding between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and TransNusa in the fields of tourism and connectivity.

In addition, there is an MoU between Bio Aksel and Pro Konsilium regarding the organic waste processing project.

Prabowo also expressed his appreciation to the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand for the honor mark from the Thai Armed Forces which will be awarded to him.

According to Prabowo, the award was beyond his expectations.

He said the award was a reflection of trust, friendship, mutual respect, and the close relationship between Indonesia and Thailand.
