Squid Game Sets Record With 3 Golden Globe Nominations

JAKARTA - The Squid Game series from South Korea received three nominations at the 2022 Golden Globe Awards.

The three nominations were Best Television Series, Lee Jung Jae for Best Television Series Drama, and O Yeong Su for Best Supporting Actor in Television Drama.

Lee Jung Jae competed with Brian Cox (Succession), Billy Porter (Pose), Jeremy Strong (Succession), and Omar Sy (Lupin) for his first nomination. In addition, Squid Game also competed with Lupine, The Morning Show, Pose, and Succession in the Best Television Series category.

In the Television Supporting Actor category, O Yeong Su competed with Billy Crudup (The Morning Show), Kieran Culkin (Succesion), Mark Duplass (The Morning Show), and Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso).

For the first time, a South Korean series has been nominated for an international award. Likewise with actor Lee Jung Jae who has had a career in Korea since the 90s.

This nomination is a new achievement for the series directed by Hwang Dong Hyuk. Previously, Squid Game was announced as the most popular Netflix series with the most viewers within a month of release.

This acquisition shifts Bridgerton, a British series that won the first position as the most-watched series.

Squid Game tells of a game where 456 participants compete to win 45.6 billion won. All episodes of the series can be watched on the Netflix streaming service. The highlight of the 2022 Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 9, 2022.
