Denmark for the first time will send more than 100 conscripts to Greenland amid rising geopolitical tensions and US President Donald Trump's statement that he wants to make the island part of the US.
A Reuters report on Tuesday, August 4, said the move was made in conjunction with the expansion of Denmark's mandatory military program, which now also includes women.
As reported by ANTARA, the Danish government and Greenland authorities have previously warned the US not to attempt to take over the island and stressed the importance of respecting their territorial integrity.
The Danish Armed Forces said about 1,600 young men began serving extended conscription, which is now 11 months, up from four months previously.
