Qatar Assures New Draft of US-Iran Deal is Processed, Coordinated with Oman

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed al-Ansari, said efforts to resolve the conflict between the US and Iran are in a very progressive stage. A draft potential agreement is being circulated.

When asked about the conflicting statements from US and Iranian officials regarding the negotiations, al-Ansari stressed that all processes are still ongoing.

"We can confirm that the effort is still ongoing with all parties. We are working on a diplomatic settlement at the time we are speaking," he said, quoted by CNN, Tuesday, August 4.

"There are real efforts on the ground to resolve the crisis which are in a "very progressive stage. We are working with all parties to realize this effort. So, I can assure you that these efforts are underway as we speak," he continued.

The countries in the region are urged by al-Ansari to work together to solve this problem.

Meanwhile, Qatar is also coordinating "very closely" with Oman to facilitate talks between the US and Iran as well as the exchange of ideas and drafts between the two sides.

"The draft continues to be exchanged. I can convey the language formulation for a possible agreement has been drafted and is being circulated among the parties concerned," he said.

The focus of the mediators is now on finding a short-term solution that can bring Washington and Tehran back to the negotiating table.

"Currently, there is no concrete plan regarding direct talks. We hope that if negotiations can be resumed immediately, we will be able to move towards a major agreement that will help us return to a peaceful situation in the region," al-Ansari said.
