The Ministry Of PUPR Targets The Restoration Of The Old City Of Kesawan Medan To Be Completed In October

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets the restoration work of the Kesawan Old Town area in Medan City, North Sumatra, to be completed in October 2023.

Head of the North Sumatra Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center, Directorate General of Human Settlements, Ministry of PUPR, Syafriel Tansier, said that until August 19, 2023, the physical realization of restoration work had reached 80 percent.

There are several obstacles in completing the restoration work, including the large number of street vendors (PKL) selling on the sidewalk area.

"Many street vendors sell in the sidewalk area that we are working on, causing damage to the impact and bass that has been installed," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 24.

Meanwhile, another obstacle that must be faced by his party until now is the problem of illegal parking on the sidewalk that has been completed.

"Tiang and cable utilities are still hanging to interfere with work, as well as damaging the aesthetics of the Kesawan Old Town arrangement. According to the concept, cables in the air must become planting cables," said Syafriel.

Deputy Mayor of Medan Aulia Rachman asked the Medan City Transportation Service to strictly control illegal parking to provide a deterrent effect.

Aulia also asked the Districts of West Medan and the Medan City Civil Service Satpol to socialize it to street vendors not to hold merchandise in the Old City of Kesawan.

"The Medan City Government will provide a place for street vendors, one of which is in the Jalan Nibung Raya area," he said in a formulation meeting and steps to organize the Old City of Kesawan.

Meanwhile, the utility pole and cable have instructed the Medan City Water Resources, Highways and Construction Agency (SDABMBK) to urge the providers to immediately dismantle and plant cables.

Head of the Medan City SDABMBK Service, Topan OP Ginting, said that his party had warned various provider companies to carry out their own demolition.

"We will give it until tomorrow, if the poles and utility cables are still there, we will act directly," explained Topan.
