Landslide Breaks Provincial Road in Malalak Agam, West Sumatra

WEST SUMATERA - Another landslide cut off the provincial road connecting Padang City to Bukittinggi, West Sumatra on Friday afternoon, November 25.

The head of the Agam Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Bambang Warsito, said a landslide hit Bukik Apik, East Malalak Nagari, Malalak District. As a result, vehicles cannot cross the road.

"The entire road is covered with landslide material so that the road cannot be passed by two and four-wheeled vehicles," he said in Lubukbasung, Agam, West Sumatra, Friday, November 25, quoted from Antara.

He said that at this time there was still the movement of hill land and foggy weather accompanied by rain at the landslide location and its surroundings.

However, his party has coordinated with the West Sumatra Public Works and Spatial Planning Office to deal with the landslide.

"We have coordinated with the West Sumatra Department of Public Works and Spatial Planning (DPUPR) to lower heavy equipment to clean up landslide material," he added.

Previously, a landslide occurred in the Bukik Apiak area, East Malalak Nagari a few days ago. The disaster also caused provincial roads to be cut off.

Bambang appealed to motorists in Agam to always increase vigilance when passing through the area, especially when it rains. "The Bukik Apik area is prone to landslides during high rainfall," he added.

He added that landslides also closed parts of provincial roads in Jorong Kampuang Tabu, Nagari Sipinang, Palembayan District, Agam, Friday.

In addition, a landslide blocked the road connecting Lubukbasung to Bukittinggi in Nagari Panta, Matur District. "This landslide in Panta has repeatedly happened on Friday," he said.
