Police Name Suspect Of 10.7 Kg Of Methamphetamine Smuggling In Batam
The Barelang Police have named a person with the initials RF (28) as a suspect who smuggled 10.720 grams of crystal methamphetamine or 10.7 kg from Malaysian waters.
"We revealed this case on August 5, 2023, and named one person as a suspect with the initials RF because he had 10,720 grams of crystal methamphetamine," said Barelang Police Chief Kombes Nugroho Tri Nuryanto in Batam, Riau Islands, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 16.
RF (28) was arrested in the waters of Nongsa, Batam City when he picked up methamphetamine in Malaysian waters using a fast boat.
He explained that during the arrest process of the suspect, he had jumped into the sea, but was arrested by officers.
"The suspect jumped into the sea. Our members waited a few minutes, then he surfaced, maybe because he was running out of breath. When he appeared to the surface, we immediately arrested him," he said.
From there the police also managed to get evidence in the form of a bag that he was carrying when he jumped into the sea. Inside the bag, officers found 10 packs of crystal methamphetamine weighing 10,720 grams.

After being taken to the Barelang Police Station and examined, it was found that the suspect received this job as a drug courier from a person with the initials BN who is currently on the wanted list (DPO).
The methamphetamine, said the Police Chief, was planned to be brought by the suspect to Palembang, South Sumatra, through the waters.
RF admitted that this is the first time he has been involved in a drug trafficking case. He was offered Rp. 20 million to bring the methamphetamine from Malaysian waters to Batam.
For his actions, RF was charged with Article 114 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 112 paragraph 2 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics with the threat of death penalty or life imprisonment.
