The Grunge Music World Has Lost Another Important Figure: Farewell to Van Conner, Bassist Screaming Trees

JAKARTA - Van Conner, bassist and co-founder of the band from Washington, Screaming Trees, has died at the age of 55.

The news was confirmed by Conner's older brother, Gary Lee, who also plays guitar in the band.

“Van Conner bassist and songwriter Screaming Trees passed away last night from a long-standing illness at the age of 55,” Lee began his announcement in a social media post on Wednesday.

"The pneumonia which eventually made him sick. He was one of the closest friends I ever had and I loved him dearly. I will miss him forever."

Lee previously shared on Facebook that his sister was unwell.

“He is still handsome but he will come back again. It will be a long road for him but his family gives him a lot of support. He has more songs to write,” Lee wrote three days ago.

Last year, Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan died at his home in Killarney, Ireland on February 22, aged 57.

Conner co-founded Screaming Trees with his brother Lanegan and drummer Mark Pickerel in Ellensburg in 1984.

Despite being widely associated with the grunge genre, Screaming Trees is known for its hard rock and psychedelic sound.
