JAKARTA - British automotive manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover targets all products created to be fully electric-powered by 2030.

This is linked to Jaguar Land Rover joining the global race to develop zero-emission vehicle models, while avoiding a ban on the sale of new fossil fueled-vehicles.

Jaguar Land Rover, which is owned by Tata Motors India, said in a statement to Reuters that Jaguar will lead a product line of fully electric models built on the new platform by 2025.

Meanwhile, Land Rover will launch six pure electric models in the next five years, with the first coming in 2024.

Known for its iconic, high-performance E-Type models in the 1960s and 1970s, Jaguar faced challenges from many other automakers to make the transition to electric vehicles while retaining the feel and power of a luxury combustion engine model.

Jaguar Land Rover said that its three UK factories will continue to operate when they start producing electric vehicles. However, there is one factory that will have a different role.

"The Castle Bromwich plant in central England will focus on non-production activities for the long term," said Jaguar Land Rover CEO Thierry Bollore.

"It's time to show the face of the brand's new second chapter, British brands rich in timeless designs (Jaguar and Land Rover)," said Bollore.

Jaguar Land Rover said it would spend about 2.5 billion pounds, or about 3.5 billion US dollars annually, on electrification technology and the development of connected vehicle services.

In addition, Jaguar Land Rover also revealed that it is developing hydrogen fuel cells to anticipate a future shift to hydrogen for electric vehicles. The automaker said it would have a prototype using hydrogen fuel cells on UK roads within the next year, as part of a long-term investment plan.

All of these business and production strategies are inseparable from the target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions throughout the supply chain, products, and operations by 2039.
