Hackers Perform DDoS Attacks on Websites of the Central Bank of Denmark and Seven Other Private Banks

JAKARTA - Hackers are accused of interfering with access to the websites of the Danish central bank and seven private banks in the country this week. This was revealed according to central banks and IT companies serving the industry.

The websites of the central bank and Bankdata, a company that develops IT solutions for the financial industry, were hit by so-called distributed denial of service (DDoS), which redirect traffic to targeted servers in an attempt to take them offline.

A spokesperson for the central bank said its website was functioning normally on Tuesday afternoon January 10 and the attack did not affect other banks' systems or day-to-day operations.

"Access to the websites of seven private banks was restricted last Tuesday after a DDoS attack on Bankdata," a company spokesperson said. "These banks include the two largest banks in Denmark, Jyske Bank and Sydbank."

Sydbank confirmed on its Facebook page that access to its website had been restricted last Tuesday. A spokesperson for Jyske confirmed some customers were having problems accessing its website on Tuesday.
