JAKARTA – In the midst of the threat of a global recession in 2023, the adoption of cryptocurrencies has actually increased significantly. This time the crypto company Blockchain.com announced the launch of the Visa crypto debit card. These crypto Visa cards can be used to spend their crypto holdings.

There are currently around 50,000 users who have already signed up for the crypto Visa card. The launch of the prepaid crypto Visa card is supported by the card issuing platform Marqeta. Later, Blockchain.com users will get 1 percent in crypto every time they spend their funds using the card.

This is an attempt by the company to expand the use and adoption of cryptocurrencies. In this way, Blockchain.com joins other crypto companies that release Visa crypto cards, including Crypto.com, Bitso, BlockFi, FTX, Coinbase, Bitpay, and Ripio.

According to an announcement on Wednesday, Blockchain.com Visa users can “spend from their crypto balance free of charge and offer the opportunity to earn crypto rewards."

“As one of the oldest and most trusted platforms in the crypto industry, we are excited to launch the next natural step towards making crypto easy to use in the real world and accessible to as many people as possible", said Blockchain.com CEO Peter Smith as quoted by Bitcoin.com News.

“This is a prime example of digital assets making their mark on the existing financial services industry, as we shape the future of (mainstream) finance", added Smith.

Visa Believes Crypto Adoption Is Rising

Blockchain.com's Visa card announcement follows the company's multi-year partnership agreement with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. The company previously signed a deal with the entire Dallas Cowboys team in mid-April to become the NFL team's "exclusive digital asset partner."

During the announcement on Wednesday, Cuy Sheffield, head of the crypto unit at Visa, explained that the payments giant believes that if crypto adoption will continue to increase, mainstream financial solutions like cards help support that effort.

“At Visa, we believe that for crypto adoption to grow, crypto must be easily accepted everywhere", Sheffield said in a statement.

“We are excited to partner with a leading crypto wallet and exchange like Blockchain.com to open up more ways consumers can use their crypto for everyday purchases", he added.
