FA Cup Surprise, Middlesbrough Vs Tottenham Hotspur Ends Unexpectedly

JAKARTA – Tottenham Hotspur were eliminated from the fifth round of the FA Cup. They were beaten by the Championship division team, Middlesbrough, with a narrow score of 0-1.

The Middlesbrough versus Tottenham match will be held at the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday, March 2 in the morning, western Indonesia time. Spurs lost due to goals scored by Josh Coburn in extra time.

Both teams played cautiously at the start of the game. The first dangerous opportunity was created in the 25th minute when Andraz Sporar's shot was blocked by a Spurs player.

Spurs had a golden opportunity in the 39th minute. Matt Doherty escaped from an offside position and past goalkeeper Joe Lumley who came out of the net. Doherty then fired home from the sidelines, but the ball was still off goal.

Doherty again made the next opportunity for the Spurs in the 42nd minute. However, his efforts were still not accurate so the score of 0-0 lasted until halftime.

Ten minutes after the break, Middlesbrough returned a threat to the Tottenham goal, which was escorted by Hugo Lloris. Matt Crooks headed the ball across goal, but the effort was just off target.

Four minutes after that, Antonio Conte's squad actually scored a goal through Harry Kane. However, the England international's goal was disallowed for being offside.

Three minutes before the normal time, the home team got a golden opportunity to change the scoreboard. Luckily for the Spurs, Isaiah Jones' shot was saved by Lloris.

The save resulted in no goals being scored for the full 90 minutes so the match had to go into the extra 2x15 minutes.

In that round, Tottenham Hotspur immediately stepped on the gas trying to break the deadlock through Dejan Kulusevski's kick from outside the penalty box. Unfortunately, the effort went wide for the host's goal.

Middlesbrough hit back in the 103rd minute. Marcus Tavernier fired home from a tight angle, but the ball was still low and Lloris saved.

The deadlock was finally broken a minute after the second half of extra time began. Josh Coburn escaped from an offside position when he picked up a Matt Crooks pass and fired straight home from close range. The score became 1-0.

Spurs immediately tried to find a goal back through Son Heung-Min's shot in the 108th minute, but the Korean player's efforts could still be denied by Lumley. As a result, a 1-0 advantage for Middlesbrough also lasted until the game was over.
