Responding To The Call Of National Human Rights Commission, Deputy Chairperson Of KPI: We Don't Want To Be An Obstacle

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara said the process of examining the leadership of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) at the Komnas HAM Office, Menteng, Central Jakarta to examine allegations of omission in cases of bullying and sexual harassment by male employees that occurred at the KPI office.

"Currently the process of requesting information from KPI is ongoing", said Beka when confirmed by VOI, Wednesday, September 15.

The KPI representatives who attended Komnas HAM were Deputy Chairperson of KPI Mulyo Hadi and the KPI Umri Secretariat.

"Both of them are accompanied by KPI legal experts", said Beka.

Komnas HAM has explored a number of things, from the chronology of incidents of harassment and bullying to the internal investigation process that has been and will be carried out by KPI.

"From KPI's side, of course, it's about the chronology of events from the KPI's point of view, the response that has been carried out by KPI, and what the next steps will be", he said.

Meanwhile, according to Deputy Chairperson of KPI Mulyo Hadi Purnomo, his visit to Komnas HAM is a form of commitment to resolving this case fairly and honestly.

"We don't want anything to hinder us. We let the process is running as it should. We want to resolve this case in accordance with the legal channels in force in Indonesia", he said.

In addition, Komnas HAM will also summon the leadership of the Central Jakarta Police on Wednesday, September 15, noon. Komnas HAM will also dig up information from the Central Jakarta Police regarding the alleged omission in this case.

Komnas HAM will determine whether it is true that MS victims have tried to report the harassment they experienced to the Gambir Police in 2019 and 2020, but they have not been followed up.

Before summoning KPI and the police, Komnas HAM had already heard the testimony of the victim MS on Wednesday last week. Komnas HAM has also received a number of pieces of evidence from MS's attorney.
