JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission VIII Ace Hasan Syadzily admitted that the number of COVID-19 cases was still relatively high. So based on the results of the evaluation of the death rate and hospital occupancy, the government finally extended the PPKM Level 4 period to August 2.

Ace agreed that the tightening of the PPKM policy must also consider the economic aspect. Moreover, not all levels of society receive social assistance (bansos) from the government.

According to him, there are still many informal economic sectors of the community that are heavily affected by the tightening of community mobility to reduce the rate of transmission of COVID-19. "Daily workers, market traders, roadside food vendors, etc., those who work in the informal sector are severely affected. But they are economically very constrained by this tightening they can't sell. So how can they make ends meet? basic needs? This is what the government should think about," said Ace, Monday, July 26. "So, this sector is given leeway even though it still has to follow strict health protocols. For example regarding time restrictions," he added.

Nevertheless, Ace appealed to the public to be aware of the importance of health protocols during the PPKM level 4 period to suppress the rate of transmission of COVID.

"If the transmission is still high, it will certainly make the economy slow down even more. And much more than that, lives and safety of life will be at stake," he said. to sanction violators during the extension of PPKM level 4 to August 2. This is because they are still vulnerable to the spread of COVID-19.

"Local governments must ensure that the rules are the legal basis for regulating certain sectors that are allowed to operate along with sanctions for violators," said Ace.
