JAKARTA - The DKI Provincial Government is reviewing the plan to increase vehicle parking rates in the capital city. The plan, parking rates will increase to IDR 60 thousand per hour. This was criticized by Gilbert Simanjuntak, a member of the DKI Regional House of Representatives of the PDIP Faction.

Gilbert considers that Jakarta has not been able to increase the parking tax for private vehicles. According to him, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan should improve public transportation services that are adequate and reach all locations.

"The public transportation should be repaired first, not the parking fee which is used as an instrument to encourage people to use it in its current condition", Gilbert told reporters on Saturday, June 26.

According to Gilbert, currently, public transportation in the capital is not adequate. Anies has the Jaklingko program, with transportation that reaches residential areas. This program is actually good, but Gilbert regrets that JakLingko is not developing.

"Anies promised Jaklingko, but there is very few that work. Jaklingko is a good concept, but as we can see, everything stops at grammar and lacks action", he said.

In fact, according to him, good public transportation will result in good air quality, and losses due to traffic jams will be overcome. The high parking rates that are being studied will add to transportation problems in the capital city.

"The planned parking fee is too expensive, considering that most of the people are users of two-wheeled vehicles. The first solution that is considered is to provide affordable public transportation and reach all residential areas and workplaces in the city", he explained.

For information, in the plan to increase parking rates, the DKI Provincial Government is implementing a trial of increasing parking rates as a study.

There are three selected trial locations for increasing parking rates, namely locations that pass through the main corridor of public transportation services. The locations are the parking lot of the Indonesian Restaurant and Garden Association (IRTI), the Samsat parking lot, and Blok M Square.

Then, there are several additional locations being developed for the trial of increasing parking rates, namely the South Jakarta Mayestik Market area, Plaza Intercon, and Park and Ride Kalideres.

In the plan to change the rules for parking rates for cars and motorbikes in Jakarta, the corridor for the parking control area (KPP) class A for cars is proposed for IDR 5,000-IDR 60,000 per hour. Then, for group B starting from IDR 5,000-IDR 40,000 per hour.

Meanwhile, for motorcycles at KPP class A, IDR 2,000-IDR 18,000 per hour is proposed, and for class B IDR 2,000-IDR 12,000 per hour.
