JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that 22 out of 34 provinces in Indonesia experienced a higher increase in cases this week than the previous week.

Meanwhile, 12 provinces experienced an increase in cases this week which was lower than the previous week.

Wiku said that the six provinces with the highest increase in cases were on the island of Java, namely DKI Jakarta, Central Java, West Java, East Java, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), and Banten.

"The increase in cases in the fifth week after the Eid holiday period is clearly seen in areas that are homecoming destinations such as Central Java, East Java, DIY, Banten, and West Java. As well as the area where travelers come from, namely DKI Jakarta", Wiku said on a YouTube broadcast by Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday, June 15.

Wiku said this worrying condition should be a concern for the local government and the community to be more careful. Local governments with a high increase in cases must establish a case-control strategy that is in accordance with their respective conditions and capacities.

"Our current focus is to immediately control the growth of cases in areas that are experiencing a critical condition of the case, by participating in complying with existing policies, both domestic and foreign mobility restrictions and health protocol discipline", he explained.

Meanwhile, for provinces that have experienced a decline in cases, Wiku asks that this condition be maintained. This province can also help neighboring areas that are still experiencing an increase in cases, especially in accommodating COVID-19 patients.

"For example, Gorontalo, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and Central Sulawesi are still experiencing an increase in cases, while North and West Sulawesi have experienced a decline in cases", said Wiku.

"If needed and possible, North and West Sulawesi can help deal with COVID-19 in South, Southeast, and Central Sulawesi. Likewise with the provinces on the islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan", he continued.
