41 Regions Potentially Face Empty Boxes During The 2024 Pilkada

The General Elections Commission (KPU) noted that 41 regions in Indonesia face empty boxes in the 2024 Pilkada.

Chairman of the Indonesian KPU Mochammad Afifudin said, if in the 024 Pilkada the empty box will be declared victorious, then his party has prepared a scheme for the re-voting in the following year, namely 2025.

"Next year our agreement at the DPR RI Commission II yesterday, the empty box that won will be held in the following year. How many months will the stage be? Later the KPU will conduct a simulation, normally 11 months from the initial stage," Afifudin said in Batam, Friday, September 13, was confiscated by Antara.

He conveyed that candidates who previously participated in the 2024 Pilkada, could also compete again in the 2025 election.

"Candidates can compete again, the rules are the Pilkada Law. The determination will be on September 22," he said.

Regarding the action of campaigning for empty boxes, Afifudin did not question this, while the community did not invite the public to use their right to vote.

"The important thing is not to campaign for people not to exercise their voting rights. The KPU will not facilitate the empty box campaign. Regarding the choice, the rights, the empty boxes for those who do not agree with the existing candidates," he said.

Previously, the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) immediately prepared a draft re-cash schedule in 2025 regarding the possibility of an empty box winning against a single candidate.

RI KPU member Idham Holik said this was in accordance with Article 54D paragraph (3) of Law Number 10 of 2016 which explains that the next election will be held next year.
