Supreme Court Calls 6.5 Years In Prison Harvey Moeis Not Yet Inkrah, Public Asked To Be Patient

JAKARTA - The Supreme Court (MA) asked all parties to be patient regarding the criminal sentence for Harvey Moeis, the defendant in the corruption case in the management of tin commodity trading in the mining permit area of PT Timah Tbk in the 2015'2022 period.

"So, please be patient because the prosecutor has filed an appeal, so we are waiting because by filing an appeal, the court's decision has not been signed, it has not permanent legal force," said spokesman for the Supreme Court (MA) Yanto at the MA Building, Jakarta, Thursday, January 2, as reported by Antara.

Yanto explained that the verdict for the defendant in the corruption case did not recognize a criminal sentence of up to 50 years in prison.

"If it's a matter of 50 years of punishment, our positive law knows him at least a year, then the maximum can be life imprisonment. Then if Article 2 paragraph (1) (Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, ed) is four years, it could be 20 years. Or life and under certain circumstances the death penalty, "he explained.

Furthermore, he explained that under certain circumstances, such as corruption during natural disasters, monetary crises, and the occurrence of war.

"So, we'll just have to wait for the appeal decision," he said.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto at the National Development Planning Conference, in Jakarta, Monday (30/12), criticized the judges who sentenced the corruptors lightly.

"If it is clear that it violates, it will result in trillions of losses, yes all elements, especially the judges, the verdict should not be lighter," said the President.

The President said that the people understand that if they commit a criminal act of corruption of up to hundreds of trillions, the verdict should be a number of years.

"The version is 50 years, that's about it," said the President.
