Kakorlantas: Accidents And Casualties During The Nataru Holidays Drop Significantly

JAKARTA The number of accidents and the number of fatalities during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 (Nataru) holidays showed a significant decline. This was revealed by the Head of the Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) of the National Police, Inspector General of Police Aan Suhanan, when closing the 2024 Candle Operation, which lasted for 13 days, from December 21, 2024 to January 2, 2025.

According to Aan, the number of traffic accidents during the 2024 Candle Operation was recorded at 2,497 incidents, down 14 percent compared to the same period the previous year.

"The Nataru period for the accident rate has decreased," said Aan Suhanan, Friday, January 3.

In addition, the death toll also decreased by 17 percent compared to 2023. A total of 55 lives were saved during this operation, showing the effectiveness of traffic control efforts carried out by the Police.

The density of vehicles, especially in tourist areas during the Nataru holiday, is one of the main challenges in the 2024 Candle Operation. To overcome this, the police carried out various traffic engineering efforts, including implementing a single way system on certain routes to reduce congestion and facilitate the flow of vehicles.

Aan Suhanan said that the implementation of the 2024 Candle Operation as a whole went smoothly and conducively. The cooperation between the police and the community is considered effective in reducing the number of accidents and fatalities during the Nataru holiday.

"With the hard work of all parties, the number of accidents and casualties can be suppressed. This operation has succeeded in creating a safer and more comfortable atmosphere during the long Christmas and New Year holidays," he concluded.
