NTT - Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that the eruption at the top of Mount Ile Lewotolok was no longer visible in the period 16-31 August 2024.

"However, from the results of observations of the latest eruption, the potential for incandescent lava can reach about 500 meters out of the crater," said PVMBG Head Hadi Wijaya in his statement, Friday, September 6, quoted by Antara.

Meanwhile, based on deformation measurement data with electronic distance measurement (EDM) in the period 16 to 31 August, it shows oblique distance fluctuations with an upward trend at the LWT1 and flat measurement points at the LWT2 benchmark.

Furthermore, he said, the new lava flow in the south and southeast of the mountain has not experienced a change in distance to date.

Then also the lava flow to the farthest southeast is still at a distance of approximately 1.8 kilometers and 600 meters to the south.

However, even in safe conditions, people still have to be vigilant, especially residents who are under the foot of the mountain.

His party recommended that people around the foot of the mountain such as people in Lamatokan Village and Jontona be aware of the potential threat of avalanches or lava avalanches from the eastern tip.

Furthermore, the people of Jontona and Todanara Villages are advised not to enter and not to carry out activities within the southern and southeastern sectoral areas as far as 2.5 kilometers from the eruption center.
