JAKARTA - The father of the victim held hostage by Hamas, Jonathan Dekel-Chen, views Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benyamin Netanyahu as playing politics in personal interests rather than ensuring the realization of a ceasefire.
Dekel-Chen called for the re-negotiation of the ceasefire in Gaza, Palestine.
In an interview session at the "Face the Nation with Margaret total" event, Dekel-Chen said Netanyahu was navigating the continued invasion of Gaza with the defense of the hostages' freedom opportunities through ceasefire talks.
"For every discussion, Israelis in general, and including me, have been very critical of the Israeli government for not negotiating in good faith now, for months," he said, quoted by CBS News, Monday, September 2.
Dekel-Chen's remarks echo the views of many Israelis who have criticized Netanyahu and his cabinet for insisting on military operations to Gaza.
"There is no plausible explanation as to why our government refuses to engage in this negotiation deeply and resolve it, as all senior military agencies and our intelligence community have said publicly for weeks, even months that its time has come to end fighting in Gaza, taking home our hostages, as much as possible alive," Dekel-Chen said.
Israeli Defense Forces said early Sunday that six bodies held hostage, including Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin, were found in Gaza.
