JAKARTA - Tanjungpinang Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Council (BMKG) said that seven regencies/cities throughout the Riau Islands Province experienced the phenomenon of a day without a shadow due to the culmination of a phenomenon when the sun was directly above the province.

"The phenomenon of the day without a shadow in this area has started on March 20, 2021, and will end on March 30, 2021", said BMKG Tanjungpinang forecaster, Vivi, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, March 23.

Vivi explained that when the declination of the sun is the same as the latitude of the observer, the phenomenon is called the main culmination.

At that time, she said, the sun would be directly above the observer's head or at the zenith point. As a result, the image of an upright object will seem to disappear because it overlaps with the object itself.

"Therefore, the main culmination day is also known as a day without a shadow", explained Vivi.

According to her, a day without a shadow does not have an impact on natural conditions, but rather an annual phenomenon.

The first shadowless day in Riau Islands occurred on March 20, 2021, and occurred in Daik, Lingga Regency at 12:09 p.m. local time.

Then March 23, 2021, occurred in three regions at once, namely Tanjungpinang City at 12.08 p.m. local time, Bintan Regency at 12.08 p.m. local time, Batam City at 12.10 p.m. local time, Karimun Regency at 12.13 p.m. local time.

The next day without a shadow will occur in Tarempa, Anambas Regency on March 28, 2021, at 12.00 p.m. local time, and Ranai, Natuna Regency on March 30, 2021, at 11.50 a.m. local time.
