JAKARTA - The UMKM Bazaar is no longer just a place to shop for local products. In big cities, the concept continues to evolve into a lifestyle market, a space that combines shopping experiences, entertainment, and interaction with creative communities in one destination.
This phenomenon is increasingly visible in Jakarta, where various curated markets are beginning to be the choice of the public to spend time on weekends. In addition to looking for unique products, visitors also come to enjoy the atmosphere, attend workshops, watch performances, and meet directly with local business actors.
This trend has also encouraged the presence of various organizers who are trying to create a shopping experience that is more relevant to the lifestyle of urban people. One of them is through RE by LOKALMADE which was held at PIK Avenue, Jakarta, on July 30 to August 9, 2026.
Presenting more than 50 local brands from the fashion, accessories, beauty, lifestyle products, to culinary categories, this event not only brings MSMEs to consumers, but also becomes a collaboration space for creative industry players, content creators, fashion activists, and the general public.
RE is part of the LOKALMADE series initiated by the Byte Project. This year, the concept of the event was curated together with fashion stylist and creative director Aquinaldo Adrian to present a more comprehensive experience, not only transaction-oriented, but also introducing the development of the local fashion industry through various activities during the event.
The founder of the Byte Project, Theo Derick, assessed that the role of the bazaar has now changed as the needs of business actors and visitors have evolved.
"We believe that a bazaar is no longer just a place to sell. Today, events must be able to become a platform that helps brands build awareness, introduce their identity, expand their business networks, and create memorable experiences for visitors. Through RE, we want to show that Indonesian local brands have quality that can stand on par with international brands when given the right stage," said Theo.
Unlike conventional bazaars, lifestyle markets now offer more experiences that involve visitors. From fashion shows, sessions sharing inspiration about clothing style, creative workshops, to music performances are part of the shopping activity.
At RE, for example, visitors can follow a fashion show tenant, a styling session with Aquinaldo Adrian, a bag charm making workshop, a music performance, and various interactive activities that make the bazaar atmosphere feel more alive.
According to Aquinaldo Adrian, the development of local Indonesian brands in recent years shows that the quality of domestic products is increasingly able to compete. The challenge now is how to expand exposure so that more people know about it.
"Through this, we want to invite the public to look back at local brands not just as an alternative, but as the main choice that has characters, stories, and quality that deserve to be appreciated. Hopefully, this event can become a space that brings together creativity, community, and new opportunities for the local fashion industry.
The development of the lifestyle market also opens up greater opportunities for MSMEs to build brand identities. Not only selling products, business actors are now required to be able to present stories, visual concepts, and experiences that make consumers feel closer to a brand.
In the RE event, dozens of tenants from various categories are present with their respective characters, ranging from fashion, beauty, accessories, lifestyle products, to food and beverages. This diversity reflects the increasingly broad ecosystem of the local creative industry which continues to grow.
In addition to presenting UMKM tenants, the organizers also displayed a collection of woven fabrics from Cita Tenun Indonesia as a form of appreciation for the Nusantara fabric that continues to transform in line with the development of modern fashion.
The lifestyle market trend shows that the space for MSMEs is no longer limited to buying and selling activities. Through a more curated and experience-based concept, the bazaar has evolved into a meeting place for creativity, community, and new opportunities that strengthen the position of local brands in the lifestyle of urban people.
