KPK Suspects its Employee to Use the Auto Delete Chat Feature in the Pemalang Regent Case

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed one of the clues that strengthens the designation of KPK Administrative Staff Setya Budi Dias Oktavianto as a suspect in the alleged extortion of Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro. The conversation with the father, Lilik Budi Suprianto through the WhatsApp application, was in the spotlight of investigators because it used the automatic message deletion feature.

This was conveyed by the acting (Plt) Director of Investigation of the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, based on the findings from Dias' cellphone which was secured during the hand-in-hand (OTT) operation series.

"In addition to the statements of each party, both from the side of the Regent and his trusted person, then from the side of LBS as the parents of the suspect, they also conveyed the facts that are consistent between the statements, documents, and electronic evidence," said Taufik in a press conference at the KPK's Red and White building, Jakarta, Friday, July 31.

This finding then raised suspicions about Dias. Because, other messages on the phone did not use a similar feature.

"For example, this is one example of an analysis that may be described by the press friends, yes, that between the conversation between DIS and LBS as a child, the team found that the analysis in his HP always uses a timer to delete it," said Taufik.

"In fact, on the other hand, the conversation between the DIS suspect and other parties, for example, with staff members at the KPK or other parties, it does not use that," he continued.

"Well, try to imagine, we with our own parents, for example, why should there be a timer? While those with others, who are probably more profitable or what is more urgent or more careful, there is no such setting," he said.

Then, the KPK also found consistency between the testimony of witnesses and other evidence, including the alleged flow of funds from Lilik to Dias.

"Well, this is one of them, besides there are also many other evidence and evidence and consistency with the facts in the statement that he had received transfers or gifts from LBS," said Taufik.

As previously reported, the KPK has named four people related to the alleged extortion after the hand-in-hand (OTT) operation in the Jakarta and Pemalang regions. They are Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro, Mohamad Haris as his trusted person, Setya Budi Dias as an administrative staff of the KPK from the National Police, and Lilik Budi Suprianto who is a private citizen and also Dias' father.

Dias is suspected of leaking information on the handling of cases at the KPK to his father, Lilik Budi Suprianto, through a short message application.

Lilik then used the information to convince Anom that he had access to the development of the case because his son worked at the KPK.

Furthermore, Anom, Lilik, and Gus Haris met three times in Magelang and Semarang.

During the meeting, Lilik asked for a case management fee of Rp2 billion. Haris, however, only handed over Rp1.2 billion, which was allegedly collected from blackmailing a number of regional devices and private partners in Pemalang Regency.

As a result of their actions, Anom and Haris are suspected of violating Article 12 letter e and/or Article 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes jo Article 20 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Law Code.

Meanwhile, Lilik and Dias are suspected of violating Article 12 letter e of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes jo Article 20 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Law Code.
