University Of Indonesia Allows UI Chancellor Candidates From External Campus

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Selection and Screening Committee for Chancellor Candidates (P3CR) UI Sigit Pranowo Hadiwardoyo emphasized that the Chancellor of the University of Indonesia (UI) who will lead in the next five years can come from external parties.

"Anyone who will later be elected as the Chancellor of the UI, is the Chancellor of our choice. Therefore, all UI residents must be involved in this process, and parties outside the UI also guard it," said Sigit Pranowo at the UI Depok Campus, Wednesday.

According to Sigit, as stipulated in the provisions, one of the requirements for the UI Chancellor Candidate is minimum doctoral education with a maximum age of 60 years at the time of the inauguration of the rector (December 4, 2024).

"This means that as long as a person has qualified experience and capacity, anyone can run for the UI Chancellor, including from external parties," he said.

The chairman of ILUNI UI Didit Ratam said that only a few university graduates work according to their scientific fields. Therefore, the curriculum applied by UI must be able to produce graduates who are ready to work.

"So fast technology is developing, learning skills or contexts are more important than learning content," said Didit.

Chairman of the Board of Professors (DGB) of the UI Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Prof. Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro said that the main challenge faced by universities, especially state universities, is currently independence. The context of this independence includes independence in providing quality education to fund RAising.

"If we look at the experience of the world's top universities, their financial resources are two, namely endowment funds and research proceeds. Therefore, the UI Chancellor must have strong academic abilities and entrepreneurship knowledge," he said.

Ability in the field of entrepreneurship certainly opens up opportunities for industrial or professional practitioners to participate in running for Chancellor of UI.

P3CR is an adhoc team formed by the Special Chancellor Election Committee (Pansus Pilrek) of the UI Board of Trustees (MWA). This team is tasked with capturing and filtering potential rector candidates until they get a minimum of 20 candidates and then proposed to the special committee.

The election stage begins with the socialization of the rector election by the Rector Candidate Training and Screening Team (P3CR) on 5 July-3 August 2024.

The registration period for prospective rector candidates will be on July 15-August 3, 2024, checking administrative files on August 5-7, conveying the names of prospective rector candidates on August 8, 2024.

Announcement of the candidate for rector was netted by the Special Committee for the Election of the Chancellor with the Chair of the MWA on August 9, and the process of filtering 20 rector candidates by the P3CR Team on August 12-22, 2024.
