JAKARTA - The airport in the Russian city of Kazan reopened on Saturday (21/12) after being temporarily closed due to a Ukrainian drone strike.

Reported by Reuters on Sunday, December 22, the Russian state news agency reported a drone strike occurred in residential complexes and other areas in Kazan, about 500 miles (800 km) east of Moscow.

Russia's Ministry of Defense said the city was attacked by three drone waves from 07.40 to 09.20 on Friday, December 21 local time.

Three drones were destroyed by air defense systems and three others by electronic warfare systems.

No casualties were reported. Kazan Mayor said all mass activities planned in the city were canceled over the weekend.

The Baza Telegram channel, which is close to the Russian security service, published unverified video footage showing an aerial object crashing into a tall building that emitted a fireball.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova condemned the attack.

He said Ukraine vented its helpless anger over a real military defeat to the Russian population.
