Teguh Santosa: ALMh. Rachmawati Political Victim, The State Needs To Apologize

JAKARTA - The Prabowo Subianto government is expected to be willing to rehabilitate the name of the late Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, who was named a suspect in the 2016 treason case.

Bung Karno's daughter, known as a politician, education figure, and founder of Bung Karno University (UBK) was arrested by dozens of police on Friday morning, December 2, 2016 at her residence in Jati Padang, South Jakarta.

Together with a number of activists, Rachma was accused of planning to commit treason and conspiring to overthrow the legitimate government. Although released from detention at the Mako Brimob Kelapa Dua, Depok, in the evening, the examination of Rachma, who at that time was one of the elements led by the Gerindra Party, continued intensely until he finally evaporated without clarity.

Rachmawati passed away on July 3, 2021 at the Army Central Hospital due to illness.

"Until Mbak Rachma died, his status as a suspect was never revoked. His case never continued, evaporated," said former Deputy Chancellor of UBK Teguh Santosa, who at that time was a spokesman for Rachmawati.

Teguh, who is the General Chair of the Indonesian Cyber Media Network (JMSI) in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday, December 21, 2024, said that in the midst of the ongoing discourse on abolition and amnesty, the government should pay attention to legal certainty for the late Rachmawati Soekarnoputri.

"Mbak Rachma is a victim of using the law as a political tool. All the accusations directed at him are tools to silence him who is critical and wants to return the Constitution to the original script of the 1945 Constitution," said Teguh.

"His good name must be rehabilitated and returned. In fact, I think the state needs to convey a special apology. I believe the government has the discretion for this," said Teguh.
