Wiranto Reminds The Past Not Only History But References

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres) Wiranto said the past should not be just history, but should also be a reference in the future.

"There is adagium which says that the past is not only history, but also a reference. The present is where we fight, the future is where we depend on hope," said Wiranto in Jakarta, Friday, July 5, quoted by Antara.

Wiranto's statement is one of the discussion topics discussed in the National Gathering with the leaders of the MPR RI, including the Chairman of the MPR RI Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet), Deputy Chairperson of the MPR Fadel Muhammad, and Deputy Chairperson of the MPR Amir Uskara at the Wantimpres RI Building, Central Jakarta (Jakpus).

In the context of government, he continued, the past history is a reference for the government to make improvements and improvements in various ways to realize future targets.

"What we need to fix now is for sustainability so that the government in the future will be even better and can provide benefits for all Indonesian citizens and people," he said.

On the same occasion, Chairman of the MPR Bamsoet said that in the discussion, it was necessary to look back on the journey of the post-reformed nation, starting from the democratic political system that has been implemented and the current state administration life.

"The point is that we need to return to the democratic system, the political system that is in accordance with the identity of the nation," he said.

From these discussions, he said, Wiranto also said that if later needed changes or amendments to the 1945 Constitution, the right time must be found.

"Because something good, if the time is wrong, also the end is not good," he said.

The leaders of the MPR RI carried out the National Gathering to various national figures ahead of the transition to national leadership politics.

The gathering will be held to President Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, President and Vice President elected Prabowo-Gibran, 5th President Megawati Soekarnoputri, 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and 6th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Try Sutrisno, 9th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Hamzah Haz, 10th Vice President and 12th Ri Jusuf Kalla, 11th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Boediono.

In addition, the gathering was carried out on former Chairmans of the MPR RI, leaders of political parties, and leaders of social organizations including religious organizations.

Bamsoet explained that the National Gathering is needed so that the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly can continue to ground it in various circles, become a national house that maintains the diversity of the nation, guard the Pancasila ideology, enforce the constitution and sovereignty of the people, and becomes a bulwark for the establishment of the Republic of Indonesia.
