JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) supports the temporary closure of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) due to forest and land fires (karhutla). Along with the closure, the Ministry of Tourism ensures that affected tourists can receive a 100 percent Bromo ticket refund or reschedule for free.
The Ministry of Tourism emphasized the safety of the community, tourists, officers, and tourism industry players as the main priority in the midst of an emergency response situation due to a fire in the TNBTS area.
"We fully support the decision to temporarily close access to Mount Bromo until the conditions are declared safe by the competent authorities. Tourists are urged not to force travel and always follow official information," said the Ministry of Tourism in its official statement, Monday, August 10.
Based on data from the TNBTS Headquarters, as many as 3,062 tourists have obtained online tickets for the period 9-15 August 2026. This number consists of 2,671 Indonesian tourists and 391 foreign tourists.
For tourists affected by the closure of the Bromo area due to the fire, the government provides two mechanisms for ticket recovery.
First, a free reschedule, which is a change in the schedule of visits without charge until December 31, 2026.
Second, a 100 percent refund, in the form of a full ticket refund that will be transferred directly to the account or e-wallet.
The policy is given to tourists who have a visit ticket from August 9, 2026 until the TNBTS area is reopened.
Tourists who want to apply for a refund or reschedule Bromo tickets need to pay attention to the procedures and deadlines that have been set.
Here's how to apply for a refund and reschedule TNBTS tickets:

2. Deadline for submission The form must be filled in no later than August 31, 2026.
3. Refund processing is processed within 3-14 working days. Confirmation will be sent via email or WhatsApp.
4. Information Service Official customer support can be contacted via WhatsApp at 085117788005/085158891328 or Instagram @bbtnbromotenggersemeru.
Tourists who have tickets in the affected period are advised to follow the procedures and use the official channel to get information regarding the refund of Bromo tickets and changes to the visit schedule.
The refund policy does not apply automatically to accommodation. Unlike the TNBTS area entrance ticket, the refund for hotels still follows the regulations of each manager.
The results of the coordination of the Ministry of Tourism with the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) confirmed that there was no special mechanism for refunds or rescheduling hotels due to the closure of the Bromo area. Thus, the refund process or schedule change still uses the normal format and policy of each lodging.
The Ministry of Tourism also asked tourism industry players to actively provide information transparently to tourists who must reschedule their trips.
"Our current focus is to ensure that the fire handling runs optimally and the area is completely safe. After the conditions are under control, the Ministry of Tourism will coordinate to restore tourism activities and the local economy of Bromo," concluded the Ministry of Tourism.
