15 Dead-8 Missing Due to Floods and Landslides in the Philippines

JAKARTA - The number of fatalities due to the tropical cyclones Kujira and Dolphin, as well as the southwest monsoon winds that triggered floods and landslides in the Philippines, increased to 15 people on Monday (10/8). In addition, eight people are still missing, reported the Manila Times.

Assistant Secretary of the Office of Civil Defense Laurence Mina, as quoted by the English-language Philippine newspaper, said 11 other residents were injured as a result of the natural disaster.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Tuesday, August 11, Mina said the causes of death of the victims of the disaster included landslides, rock collapses, fallen trees, electric shocks, and drowning.

According to a report by GMA News Online, almost 586,000 people were affected by the disaster. They are spread across nine regions and 33 provinces.

A total of 4,866 people have also been evacuated as a precautionary measure in Regions I, III, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa.

More than 32,800 people have been displaced. They are in evacuation centers or relatives' houses.
