Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas undergoes the first trial at the Jakarta Tipikor Court/DOK IST

JAKARTA - Former Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas chose to remain calm ahead of his first trial for alleged corruption in the haj quota at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) in Jakarta which was held today.

Yaqut did not say much about the matter that caught him. He only asked for prayer support so that the trial process would run well and smoothly.

"Just pray, if that's the case later. Just pray that the trial will go well, smoothly. Pray, all that is good will be seen," said Yaqut in the courtroom, Tuesday, August 11.

In the midst of the spotlight on the case, Yaqut also ensured that he was in good health when he was about to attend the trial.

"Alhamdulillah," he said.

A similar statement was made by his wife, Eny Retno. He said Yaqut's family fully respected the legal process that was underway.

"Just pray that the trial goes well, smoothly. We have great respect for the legal process that is underway," said Eny.

Eny hopes that the trial will not only run smoothly, but also provide space for a fair trial process.

"Hopefully later we will get a good trial, which is fair. We just ask for prayers," he said.

Yaqut's first trial today is scheduled with the agenda of reading the indictment by the KPK Public Prosecutor (JPU). From this indictment, the construction of the case that has been built by investigators will be opened before the panel of judges.

Furthermore, various allegations against Yaqut will enter the evidence room. Facts, witness statements, evidence, and the construction of the case submitted by the prosecutor will be tested in the trial.

For Yaqut and his family, the process is now a space to prove what actually happened in the haj quota policy that he took when he was Minister of Religion.
