Alleged Corruption In Papua Special Autonomy Funds Continues, KPK, AGO And Police Share Tasks

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud M.D. said that the alleged corruption case of the Papua special autonomy (autonomy) fund is already underway. In fact, so far it has coordinated with all law enforcement agencies.

"If it is about corruption in Papua, yes, it is currently underway. Further investigations are currently underway," Mahfud told reporters, Monday, March 15.

In coordination, said Mahfud, there is already a division of tasks among law enforcers. In addition, the data regarding the alleged corruption has also been given.

"From the data we have, we now share our duties. This is handled by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), this is the AGO, this is the Police," Mahfud said.

"We have provided a list based on the information that came into us. So in Papua, law enforcement will continue," Mahfud continued.

Separately, Solicitor General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the AGO, Ali Mukartono said that there had been no direct instructions regarding the handling of the case. But, indeed, there has been a request from the AGO.

"Yes, he was told to get ready at that time. It's already there," he said.

Previously, Mahfud MD emphasized that he would follow up and gather law enforcement officials from the Attorney General's Office, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and the Police so that law enforcement immediately enforced the law in Papua.

"I always listen to this matter of law enforcement when having a dialogue with the community and Papuan leaders. Therefore we are following up, we are gathering the Attorney General's Office, the Corruption Eradication Commission, the Police, to bring this aspiration, we will follow up on law enforcement," Mahfud said.

Regarding various other proposals including the expansion of the province, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs emphasized that he would follow up with two steps. First, the legislative process which will later be submitted to the team through the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"Second, I have asked deputy one of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs to immediately map it so that the division area is correct, including reviewing proposals from the heads of regions and community leaders," said Mahfud.
