Evaluation Meeting With Commission II Of The DPR, The Minister Of Home Affairs Agrees That The 2024 Election System Needs To Be Reviewed

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian agreed that the system related to general elections (elections) needed to be reviewed after listening to the discussion of the 2024 General Election evaluation meeting with Commission II of the DPR RI.

According to him, all input from members of Commission II of the DPR RI regarding the evaluation of the election will be recorded and become input for his party to be studied later with experts with scientific studies.

"Essentially, we agree that there will be a redesign for the electoral system, learning from the previous election, what is good for us to maintain, what is bad for us to fix," Tito said at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 15, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said the dynamics of the democratic process that has occurred so far is the influence of the post-Reformed 1998 political process. According to him, this nation has chosen to run a liberal democratic system, but the system is considered not good if applied in countries where the majority of people are middle to lower class.

For this reason, he also said that in the future the Ministry of Home Affairs will hold a number of discussion forums related to electoral system problems. According to him, all kinds of corrections will be input.

In addition, he said that the improvement of the system through the bill should not be pursued by air and the impact would not be good for the nation.

Apart from the various existing problems, according to him, the Ministry of Home Affairs has the view that the 2024 General Election which was held on February 14 will run safely and conducively.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ahmad Doli Kurnia, did not deny that he heard about the issue related to transactional politics to the lower level. According to him, it arose because of the precedent of the above level.

"That can all be due to causal causes, deviant behavior, transactional matters, meaning there is a need," said Doli.
