Canda Prabowo when he greeted the Deputy Governor of BI Destry: I think it's okay but it's up to the DPR

BATANG - President Prabowo Subianto joked with the Acting Governor of the Bank Indonesia (BI) Destry Damayanti.

This was done when he attended the Mass KPR Sejahtera event through the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP) scheme held in Batang Regency, Central Java, Thursday, July 30.

The moment occurred when Prabowo greeted a number of officials and invited guests who were present.

He refuted the statement of the Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning (PKP) Maruarar Sirait who called Destry as the Senior Deputy Governor of BI.

"The Minister of Housing was wrong, not Destry, this woman is now an official, the interim governor. So, an official," said Prabowo.

Destry also stood up and clasped his hands when his name was mentioned by Prabowo.

Then, Prabowo joked to the invited guests who were present.

"How do you think? Okay, yes (to become BI Governor)?", said Prabowo.

"But, it will depend on the DPR," he continued.

To note, Perry Warjiyo officially resigned from the position of Governor of BI effective July 25, 2026.

Perry's resignation was conveyed to President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday, July 26.

The Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi explained that according to the provisions in the Bank Indonesia Law, the position of the Governor of BI will automatically be carried out by the Senior Deputy Governor as the Acting Governor.

"For the future, in accordance with the Bank Indonesia (BI) Law, the position of Governor of Bank Indonesia will automatically be held by the Senior Deputy Governor, who will then carry out all duties as Acting Governor," he said in a press conference, Monday, July 27.
