BENGKULU - At least four sub-districts were affected by flooding due to the overflow of the Annual River in Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province. Data collection on flood victims is being carried out by local officials.

Head of BPBD Lebong Regency Tantomi said the heavy rain that fell from Rejang Lebong during Monday, April 15 evening until Tuesday, April 16 at around 06.00 WIB caused the Year River to overflow.

"Until this afternoon the flood is still ongoing. Real data in the field has not been collected, because data collection is still being carried out. For sub-districts that are really affected, there are four sub-districts, but currently the water level is starting to recede," he said in Rejang Lebong, Tuesday, April 16, which was confiscated by Antara.

He explained that the four sub-districts affected by the flood were Topos, Lebong Sakti, Uram Jaya, and Beringin Kuning sub-districts.

The flood that occurred this time, he said, was almost the same as what happened 29 years ago, precisely in 1995. However, there were no casualties, but the material loss value is estimated at billions of rupiah.

"There were dozens of houses that were damaged, especially in the kitchen that were washed away. Then the rice fields, the suspension bridge, five units were cut off, there were livestock, but there were no reports of how many, roads and others," said Tantomi.

So far, the Lebong Regency Government has established disaster management posts and evacuated residents trapped in floods to safe places or to their families' homes where they were not affected by flooding.

According to him, the sub-districts affected by the floods have been directly reviewed by the Lebong Regent together with the Lebong Police Chief and Dandim 0409/Rejang Lebong to distribute aid.

He appealed to residents who live along the Ketahun River and several other areas that are prone to disasters to always increase their self-awareness considering that the current weather is still extreme and difficult to predict.
