Prabowo Targets 100,000 Schools to Be Improved by 2027

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto targets 100,000 schools to be repaired by 2027. This target is part of the government's efforts to accelerate the equalization of educational facilities and resolve the physical condition of school buildings throughout Indonesia in the next two years.

The Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi said President Prabowo wants all schools that have been damaged to be rehabilitated within the next two years.

"Next year we hope it can reach 100,000 (schools), so that in the next 2 years at the latest all our schools must have been repaired. That's from the physical side of the school," said Prasetyo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 12.

Prasetyo explained that the government's commitment to the education sector will be one of the focuses conveyed by President Prabowo in the financial note speech and the submission of the 2027 State Budget Bill (RUU) at the parliament complex.

According to him, the President's attention to improving educational facilities has been shown since the beginning of the government through the school revitalization program.

In 2026, the government originally targeted improvements to around 17,000 schools. However, after receiving the latest data on the condition of school buildings in various regions, President Prabowo instructed the addition of the number of schools that were rehabilitated.

At the direction of the government, an additional 60,000 schools were added to the improvement program this year. With this addition, the total number of schools targeted for improvement throughout 2026 reached nearly 80,000 schools.

"So this year we will be able to complete almost close to 80,000," said Prasetyo.

He said the increase in the target was possible through efficiency and budget reallocation. The government is screening spending that is considered less productive to be transferred to programs that provide direct benefits to the community, including improving educational facilities.

"This is also the result of our success in continuously sifting through budgets that are considered less productive to be reallocated to programs that have a much greater impact," he said.

Prasetyo added that budget adjustments would continue to be carried out according to the needs and development of data in the field. With this step, the government is optimistic that the target of improving 100,000 schools by 2027 can be achieved.

Through this massive rehabilitation program, the government hopes that the problem of physical damage to schools throughout Indonesia can be resolved within the next two years so that the learning process takes place in a safer, more comfortable, and quality manner.
