Minister of Culture Fadli Zon discussed these efforts when he received fashion designer and artistic director Asha Smara Darra at the Ministry of Culture Office, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 12.
Asha said that the preservation of Sumba weaving through the Umaratu Foundation has involved weaving masters and young generations. One of the things that is being prepared is a book about the masters and Sumba weaving motifs.
The book will not only record the fabric and motifs, but also the journey, knowledge, and experiences of the weavers.
According to Asha, documentation is increasingly urgent because some references to old motifs are starting to be difficult to find. Searches need to be carried out through the family of the fabric owner, the community, to collectors to ensure the origin and accuracy of the motif.

In the meeting, the development of special publications regarding East Sumba which contains a collection of fabrics and the history of the kings in the region was also discussed.
The Ministry hopes that documentation will not only store the physical form of the cloth, but also the knowledge behind the motifs and techniques of its manufacture, which have been passed down through weavers.
