Komnas Perempuan Calls Early Death Sera A Form Of Femicuda, Here's The Explanation

JAKARTA - Komnas Perempuan chairman Andy Yentriyani explained that the case of the death of Dini Sera Afriyanti who was abused by her lover, Ronald Tannur, who is a child of a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives is a femicid.

Andy said, this can be seen from the series of incidents of abuse experienced by Dini. There are indications that Ronald's abuse to Dini has occurred repeatedly and the latter leads to death.

The last violent incident showed an intentional process to cause extraordinary physical and psychological suffering to the victim. The beatings from the inside of the room, into the parking lot, placing the victim in the trunk, recording with guncangan, crossing by car, and delaying taking the victim to the hospital.

"This series of conditions shows that this incident can be categorized as a femicuda, a murder of a woman on the grounds or because she is a woman, in relation to a gender-based unequal power against the perpetrator, in this case, the relationship between the victim and the perpetrator who is his girlfriend," Andy explained in his statement, Sunday, October 8.

Andy said that Komnas Perempuan had conducted a number of document studies on various efforts made by other countries in the case of femisida. In this case, support for victims' families is important to go through difficult times due to a sense of loss and a non-short legal process.

"Integrated service centers for women and children, which are currently available in various provinces, cities and districts, can become a node to provide support for this recovery," he said.

Furthermore, Komnas Perempuan also encouraged the police to seriously ensure that the legal process for the main suspects took place in an accountable manner, as well as to other parties who knew, allowed and/or participated in the persecution.

"Also, encouraging the police to recognize other parties who may be in a position to prevent acts of persecution but not take the necessary steps. For example, when they are in the first location of the incident and in the parking lot," he explained.

The incident that resulted in the death of the 29-year-old Dini victim began with a dispute between the victim and Ronald, his girlfriend. The victim was abused at the Blackhole KTV karaoke bar located in Surabaya to death on Wednesday, October 4.

The Dini family who did not accept the death of the victim immediately reported the case to the Surabaya Police for further investigation. The Surabaya Police then named Ronald a suspect in severe abuse that caused his girlfriend to die.

Police released Ronald molesting Andini since leaving the KTV Blackhole area, between the elevator and the parking lot while walking to the car.

"On the basis of the facts of the investigation, which are adjusted to the chronology and supported by evidence, we have raised the status of witnesses as suspects against GR," said Surabaya Police Chief Kombes Pasma Royce.
