JATENG - Jatibarang Final Disposal Area (TPA) in Semarang City experienced a fire on Monday, September 18 at noon.

Head of UPTD TPA Jatibarang Wahyu Heryawan said the fire first emerged from the former TPA which was at the top at around 14.00 WIB.

"The beginning of the fire from the TPS which has been closed above," said Wahyu, confiscated by Antara.

Strong winds caused the fire to quickly spread to the bottom of the TPA.

He said the fire was thought to have originated from a spark at the closed TPA.

"But we don't know the cause of the sparks," he added.

Firefighters assisted by a number of water tankers tried to prevent the fire from spreading even more widely.

"We will localize the fire so it doesn't spread," he said.

Meanwhile, TPA officers tried to move the waste that had been sorted to a safer place.

The fire itself spread in the former fertilizer factory building used to store sorted waste.
